Andrew (Anderson) Dawson
Andrew (Anderson) Dawson (1863-1910) was a miner and later a newspaper editor and proprietor. A unionist, republican and Federationist, he was a reformer, not an ideologue. He entered the Queensland parliament in 1893. As Premier (1-7 December 1899), he led the first Labour (Labor) government in the world. World’s first Labour government
The first Labour government in the world takes office in the colony of Queensland. It is a minority government led by Anderson Dawson, and lasts for just seven days before being defeated by the conservative opposition party led by Robert Philp.
