Joseph Gerrald
Joseph Gerrald (1760-96), a lawyer, was prominent among radicals in London who advocated drastic parliamentary reform. He was an impassioned and eloquent speaker at a convention in Edinburgh in 1793 which the authorities deemed subversive. Spurning an opportunity to abandon his comrades and avoid arrest, he was convicted of sedition and transported to New South Wales in 1795. Courtesy Australian Dictionary of Biography
